As a professional technical writer, these are my 10 commandments:

1) I take full responsibility for the accuracy of the information in my
documentation since the documentation is mine.
2) I take full responsibility for maintaining the accuracy of the
information in my documentation even as the product I'm documenting evolves.
3) I will to do everything I can, up to but not including the point of
violating the rules of those who pay me, to locate the correct information
at all times.
4) If an error is found, and it will be, I will simply fix it in a
reasonable timeframe to the best of my ability without attaching blame to
myself or those around me.
5) I will attempt to know enough about the subject I am writing to know the
answers, and failing that, know who does have the answer.
6) I will establish, with those I work with, the understanding that if they
keep something a secret, it will remain a secret until the customer finds
out.
7) I will represent the work of my peers in the most comprehensive and
accurate way possible.
8) I will not take shortcuts, hoping that someone doesn't find out.
9) I will enjoy my work.
10) I will do my work according to my standards and not be upset if others
aren't the same as mine since they are not me and are not working under the
same conditions that I am.
