I see your point but if you knew our group you would not say that.
There are plenty of lively gregarious folks in the programming group and
others as well. Three or four of them come to mind - he could have asked
them. And they deal with clients - all over the world - so they deal
with many more people than the documenters do.

Maybe he sees that since technical writers must deal with all kinds of
people, what better type of person than to do the coordinating and

My assistant in the documentation department here- my boss went to her
and asked her to be the designated party organizer and person who
collects money for baby showers. There are 25 people on this floor, but
he comes to someone in this department. I put a stop to that in a big
hurry. I/we don't mind doing it sometimes, but why not spread it around
- let others handle it sometimes? Interesting he did not go to any of
the programmers or network admins - but comes to our department. I felt
that this was an indication that he sees tech writing as lightweight,
