As a step on the road to changing careers, I had my first interview for a
technical writing position with Robert Half Technology. I count that as an
accomplishment.

As an added bonus, I believe it went well. I got along with the "get to know
you" guy. Then I met the guy who would actually sell my services. He asked
point blank if I'd ever done a training manual. I hauled out a hardcopy
portfolio of computer procedures I wrote in 1997. It is by no means pretty,
but it represents two backbreaking weeks of work.

I opened the manual to a particular page and showed it to him. I know I
scored because his eyes lit up and he said, "Hey, I could follow this
stuff." Music to my ears.

Even if I don't wind up working with them, I feel I passed a milestone of
sorts.

Sincerely,

Craig Cardimon
