$In fact, $several of the others repeated the tired old STC party-line that $tech-writers don't need expertise in the subject matter.
Much as I value my STC membership, this is one point on which the STC and I clearly diverge--and one spot on which you and I, Bruce, appear to agree.
In my own experience as a tech writer, my own engineering background has proven to be invaluable. It significantly shortens my learning curve and helps me produce higher quality material faster.
