Hi,
On occasion, in my constantly-shifting role as a technical
writer-cum-Web admin-cum-online marketeer, I've had to do some weird
stuff. A few things come to mind: clean pr0n off our servers, sully
myself with spamming duties, Photoshop the CEO into or out of photos,
etc. Recently, however, I did something that probably doesn't appear in
many CVs: satirical video producer and presenter.

In the eternal battle to appeal to the (and I use the term fondly) geeks
who are supposed to buy our software, we're always looking for gimmicks.
In fact, I'm supposed to generate one gimmick per quarter. This quarter,
I made a satirical ad based on the ubiquitous Apple Switch campaign
(www.apple.com/switch) about switching to Web services. It all arose out
of a half-hearted, joking suggestion I made in a marketing meeting. The
rest, as they say, is history.

So, my weirdest technical writing task ever is at
http://www.capescience.com/movie. I suppose it qualifies as user
education. Why me? Well, I was the only non-Irish person in the office,
and the Irish are convinced (quite rightly in many cases) that North
American folks can't understand their accents.

So, what's the weirdest thing you've done in your job recently? I expect
there are stories of goat milking and the like. DB.
