Tell him to be a *nurse* instead. There is a tremendous shortage of nurses
all over the country, and (to paraphrase your friend) there will always be
sick people in the world. Hospitals are less dangerous than prisons, the
pay is pretty good, part-time and overtime work are both options, the
degree takes two years, there are terrific scholarships available, and
it's possible to work past "retirement age," if you want.
