As long as we're making up fantasy plots ...

Dramatic tension arises between TW and engineer as TW continues to insist, "No, really. I'm quite sure that ought to be a minus sign," and engineer points to difference in academic degrees and salaries as evidence that TW is mistaken. Manned Mars mission turns left instead of right because of incorrect sign and proceeds toward oblivion. TW is blamed for the disaster and spends remainder of life in solitary confinement while engineer becomes Secretary of Defense, leading to annihilation of the earth through inadvertent nuclear war.

Oh, sorry. That's too close to reality to make a good movie, isn't it?
