Changing the topic a bit...I could use some advice on what to do after a
particular phone screen interview.

It took place back on 12/19 with the manager I'd be reporting to. While
I didn't think I'd blown him away, I also thought it'd gone well enough
that I'd get an in-person interview post-holidays. Last Friday, I had
a message on my machine from the HR person who'd been setting this up
that there wouldn't be an in-person interview.

Now, I don't have the company email address for the manager, but I do have
a personal one (obtained via web search, and yes, I'm 100% sure it's the
right person; we talked briefly about a very significant thing he'd written
20+ years ago and this is the web page of that writer). I'd very much like
to do an email asking basically if there's any feedback he could provide
on what, if anything, I did wrong in order to help myself in future job
hunting. I'm a bit stuck on how to phrase that request though, particularly
so as to make it clear that I'm not trying to hassle him for not going
forward with me and to not sound whiny about it.

Any suggestions?
