Campbell Scientific manufactures datalogger hardware and
software. A "datalogger" is essentially a sophisticated volt meter with
memory that is also capable of some control.

In the software support group, I write help files and some manuals
for our software, test software, provide "2nd line" customer support
(if the "regular" ap engineers can't answer the questions, they come
to our group), teach a few customer training classes each year, do
in-house training on our products, develop/maintain the instruction
set for one of our programming editors, manage a small software
project or two, provide input on new product specifications, edit
newsletters and literature, etc. By default, I end up doing a lot of the
above for hardware, too. There are 6 of us in the SSG, but I am the
only one that does any significant amount of writing.

My "project du jour" is updating a manual I wrote a year or so ago
for a piece of hardware that allows our dataloggers to be
communicated with over an Ethernet connection.

I love the variety, and I love being one of the first to play with the
"new toys". It's interesting, I am always learning something
challenging and new, I work with a good group of people, and it
keeps the roof over Snoopy-cat and my heads. I can't ask for much
more! (well, I guess we could always go for independent wealth and
the Mercedes...)
