Thanks.

Currently, SuSE 8. Could also go with Red Hat, since
that's what IT is looking at, and is also what the
development people have chosen to support in our
own product offering.

Debian isn't likely to happen around here.

At home, I installed apt-get and Synaptic and did
a small update of one package, which worked fine,
so then I told it to do a major update... but I
forgot to turn off my locking X screensaver.
When I came back from supper, my password no longer
worked to unlock the screensaver, which had kicked
in at some point. I ended up restarting, and have
yet to understand how both KDE (which I was running
at the time) and GNOME (which I was not, but which
I sometimes used) are now smoking ruins. It's been
two weeks and I hope to have some time this weekend.

Doesn't quite make me want to go back to Windows at home,
but it sure gave me pause...

Cheers,

/kevin (limping along with WindowMaker)
