I only use the free listing just so that my name is in there with my
competition. In 2 years, I have never been called by someone going through
the Yellow Pages. My work comes from networking - word of mouth and by
calling on people that I know. For my money, I intend to create a Website
where I can post samples of my work and point prospects to. Other
independents told me that their Websites have been quite useful. Their
prospects can learn more about them and look at sample docs.

Subject: Anyone Using the Yellow Pages to Advertise?

My wife and I have been working for about 18 months as independent tech
writers with a lot of work from just one client (my former employer). We'd
like to increase our number of clients and we were wondering about the
usefulness of an ad in the Yellow Pages of our local telephone directory.
Does anyone have any advice or success stories? Perhaps, a Yellow Pages ad
is a waste of money? Thanks.
