I'll go in a completely differnet direction here--while I agree that you MUST storyboard out the presentation so you can figure out what the multiple paths will be--I recommend you take a look at Macromedia's Authorware <http://www.macromedia.com/software/authorware/>. It's an icon-based authoring tool for creating stand-alone CBT. It will make creating your multiple paths a snap. It includes decision structure, page tracking and many more powerful fetures.

I'll admit that there is a learning curve for Authorware, but the developer community is top-notch. The Aware newsgroup is like having 300 developers setting next to you wanting for you to ask questions.

If I had to come up with the type of presentation you've describe I'd definitely use Aware. But then again, it's the tool I know and love.
