If I want to talk to my chief copy editor, I talk to the
mirror.
My manager is an English/French mix. She doesn't
have all the rules, but she has a decent feel for
good writing. On that basis, she likes mine and
often doesn't like other stuff that's produced in
the company... but she can't quite say why.
That's ok. The woman is a whiz at picking up
inconsistencies and little glitches, as well as
pointing out where I've slipped unaware into a
forrest-and-trees situation.
Basically, she manages Product Verification,
and I largely manage myself, but we tightly
co-ordinate scheduling because PV verifies
my manuals as part of the product.
This reminds me that, when I think back,
I'm positively amazed at the number of
really, really fine bosses and cow-orkers I've
had over the years. May the streak continue. :-)
