Subject:TOC & Chapter and Heading 1 in Word From:"Nealon, Jessica" <Jessica -dot- Nealon -at- McKesson -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Thu, 10 Oct 2002 17:31:34 -0400
I am hoping someone can answer this question. I need to provide the
background before I can even ask.
I am working with a manual that was set up with each chapter in a separate
document. The TOC field code is inserted in the front matter document and
calls the indicated files (all in the same folder, of course). Within each
chapter are the standard H1, H2, and H3 that come with Word. In these files,
H1 is used for "Chapter X - <Chapter title>." When called by the TOC, it
appears in the TOC1 style and breaks up the list into sections.
I would like to "free up" Heads 1 and 2 because, most of the time, I am
stuck with H3s that need to be broken down ... and it gets a little
ridiculous. The H1 style in Word is at Outline Level 1. I think this is why
it is being called by the TOC this way and being automatically formatted
with TOC1.
My questions is can I create a style that will be called by my TOC over H1?
Or, put another way, can I modify the Outline Levels of H1 or H2 in Word?
Regards,
Jessica Nealon
