I'm with Bruce.
And tools are tools - they aren't hard to learn. If one or two keep
cropping up in the ads for jobs you want, buy the tools and learn them.
Here's an idea: Maybe take ONE course at a local college, in some
technology that is sought after in your area, like Java, C++, Oracle,
whatever - but a *technology*, NOT a tech-writing tool.
Then, use your student status to buy all the tools you want at a fraction
of their list price, from places like diskovery.com or journeyed.com. Load
up on Frame, Photoshop, Visio, Dreamweaver, whatever.
Then, in three months you'll have a high-level knowledge of some cool
technology, and a serious set of tools. Suddenly your resume has gained a
hundred pounds of beef. Of course, in three months, the market may be
asking for different tools. What's a writer to do? <g>
Good luck out there!
