Question 1 - Yes
Question 2 - Yes
Question 3 - If a font that you want is available in an OpenType version,
there is no reason not to use it.

You may be using OpenType fonts already.  Recent versions of Arial, Courier
New and Times New Roman are OpenType fonts, and so are several other fonts
supplied with Windows XP.
