I did a quick Google search and got 745 hits. The ones I scanned on the first page
suggest that your definition, which made sense when I first read it by the way,
would be the correct one. Check out those sources yourself and see if they meet your
needs.
On a related note, the first place *I* checked was FOLDOC, which I've always found
to be a reliable source. However, the URI I have always used returned a 403, Access
Forbidden message! So, I googled FOLDOC and found that the first two hits on their
list also returned 403s. I think it was the wombat mirror site that finally
responded. Anybody know what's up with FOLDOC? I've always found that a useful
resource for computer, internet, electronics terminology.
