Of course I did all of those things. The "normal" way of using tables is simply not working. Whatever my colleague did will remain a mystery for a few more days.......

Lorraine Kiewiet wonders: <<Instead of manual page breaks, each new table
follows a Section Break(Next Page). Also, when you turn on formatting marks,
you can see all of the P's alongside the table. I needed to insert more
tables, which need to be set up exactly as the ones we already hame, but try
as I might, I could not copy/paste without taking along the stupid section
break.>>

Try switching to "Normal" view instead of Page Layout view (under the View
menu). This lets you see all the section and page breaks as horizontal
dotted lines with words describing the type of break centered in the line.
If you position the text cursor directly on that line, you can press return
to move the line down and create a blank paragraph above it. You can also
insert a page break with the cursor on top of that dotted line, then do the
same trick to insert additional carriage returns as required. Toggle back
and forth between Normal view and Layout view to see the effects of your
various insertions if it's not clear.

As for cutting out just the table, try the following: With the cursor
anywhere inside the table, open the Table menu and choose Select table. Now
that the whole table is selected, you can copy or cut it using the usual
keyboard shortcuts or via the Edit menu. You can also move the mouse cursor
to the left of any row until it turns into an arrowhead and click once to
select the entire row. Now hold down the Shift key, move the arrowhead to a
subsequent row, and click the mouse to select a range of rows. Cut, copy,
and paste are once again available. (Same tricks, with minor variations,
works for columns.)
