Darren-

Have you considered having some sort of TOC for the article? That would
let you post it all on one long page, but you could provide some sort of
navigation at the side or top of the page to allow your readers to quickly
move to other sections of the article. I often find this preferable to
breaking a long piece into separate HTML pages.

Also, I include "back to top" links frequently in long peices of text.
