This week's issue of eWeek has a full-page review of the AskSam content management tool from Seaside Software. It can search PDFs, html docs, email... It's also fairly cheap. I recommend you read the review as it gives an objective take on the +'s and -'s.

I have no stake in either eweek or asksam.

Subject: search mechanism

Hello,

My company wants the Technical Publications group to provide a search
mechanism that will search across all of the documentation we provide our
customers (HTML, PDF, Word, etc.). Does anyone know how we could implement
this? I know there are several Intranet search tools on the market, but I
wasn't sure if they would meet our needs (e.g., what type of search they
provide and whether we could limit it to search only within our doc set).
Frankly, we haven't been given nearly enough time to research the
possibilities, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If possible, please send/copy your responses directly to me (so I don't have
to wait for the digest).

Thanks for your help,
Bobbie
