Hi,
A few years ago, I worked at a translation company. We produced the MS documentation in French. Microsoft in Dublin and/or Seattle used to send us guidelines like:
- Guidelines for Translators of Microsoft Documentation
- Translation Guidelines for Localization of Packaging Texts
- etc.
The rules in French were as tough as in English. That was sometimes crazy but I must admit you get quality docs via strong consistency.
I do not know how to get the guidelines if you are not a Microsoft translator.

Subject: Microsoft Manual of Style
Firstly a big thank you to everyone who responded to my keyboard question.
I have a couple questions about the Microsoft Manual of Style which I hope
someone can help me with.
- Are there Microsoft style manuals for languages othere than English?
- The latest version on offer from amazon.co.uk is from 1998 - amazon.com
has an out of print edition. Is this really the latest version? Obviously
there is new terminology from Windows 2000 and XP which is important.
