Keith, are you using Word XP? (sounds like you are, if your seeing styles
like "Normal + bold: 14 pt spacing..."

Here's what I do:

* open the "Styles and formatting pane" (Format > Styles and Formatting")
* in the pane, click on the offending style
* a drop down menu appears; the first option is "select all xxx
instances." Select the option.
* select the style you want (i.e., without the overrides
All occurrences of the override will be replaced

You will have to do this for every variation of the desired style, but
it's still quicker than ctrl + Spacebar.
