SOLVED, thanks to Darren Barefoot!
I had to add a button to my toolbar to turn OFF this feature that somebody
else had turned on. First time I've seen a feature in Word that could ONLY
be activated/deactivated by clicking a toolbar icon. Gotta love Word.
