>Some days you know just the right thing to write, some days you just don't.
>I have a form with a button that is disabled until the user enters details
>into one of the fields. However, the button isn't enabled when they are
>typing, but only when they enter text and then "focus out" of the field. They
>can take the focus of the field by either clicking elsewhere on the form,
>pressing the return key, or tabbing to another field.
>This is the sentence:
>The Update button is not enabled when you type into the field, it is only
>enabled when you focus out of the field.
>This doesn't sound right for some reason, I don't think "focus out" sounds
>right. No help from either MS or Chicago manuals. Any other suggestions?
How about just removing the whole thing -- I've run into sites with this kind
of nonsense and not bothered to enter anything simply because it appeared to
be designed for the stupidest of users -- and I have no interest in sharing my
knowledge with people who make it harder for me to communicate.
I feel the same way forms in general -- what makes any writer think that I
want to spend my time on-line answering through their form? How do you know
that I don't have the next best idea you ever heard, but I want to think it
out, and write it out in my time and email it.
