Show them the money. It's all about how your job either directly or
indirectly makes money for the company. Does it save support $$$,
increase customer rentention, allow the developers to spend more time
developing?
If you show them how you provide value, you'll certainly be able to keep
your job. If you can't show them value, then perhaps they honestly don't
need a technical writer.
