First computer:
Radio Shack Color Computer, chiclet keyboard, 8K of RAM, data storage on a
Radio Shack cassette tape recorder.
First program:
Six hours the first night to learn enough basic to turn the $600 computer
and $300 TV into a $9.95 alarm clock with fancy sounds and flashing colors.
Other items in my computer collection:
Atari 400, Atari 800, Intellivision something or other, AT&T multi-user Unix
Box, Kaypro, Radio Shack Model 100, the original IBM luggable computer (45
pounds), a Grid Compass laptop, and a whole long series of home-built 386,
486, Pentium and AMD machines.
My workshop in the garage out back looks like the fabled "Lost Computer
Graveyard." I have to keep the door unlocked and open a crack so old,
unwanted machines can limp in during the still of the night and throw
themselves on the pile.
