I follow a similar path, one long pass at the end of my editing cycle using
both spell checker and grammar checker. I do encourage the consultants to
use it while they're writing, however, because it is good at pointing out
where they've used passive voice.
But I try to always make time, right at the end of the editing process, to
do
one long pass through the document with the grammar/spellchecker, stopping
at every query.
