The only time I was given a writing test, per se, was
for my second job in the field. I had three years of
experience at the time.

The interviewer/hiring manager sat me at a PC and
started up one of the companies software products.
For the test, I had to figure out how to perform a
certain task using the software, and then document the
procedure using pencil and notebook. I thought it was
kinda fun, and I welcomed the opportunity to
demonstrate what I could do.

I also found some bugs in the process, and typos on
the screens, which may have earned me some extra
credit.

At other places, I have been given personality tests
and IQ-type tests. Those were a lot less fun.
