I've never had any formal training in technical writing.

My formal English education consists of an English minor tacked onto an
economics degree, and to borrow an idea from Winston Churchill, that
taught me how to write the basic English sentence.

To that, I've added a couple of continuing education courses in adult
education--neither of which provided enough depth to be really useful.

In terms of useful stuff, I've found the reading of thick tomes on
technical writing and related subjects, and even thicker tomes on
application software, much more useful.
