Yes. Last contract we created a 2600 page gorilla (with hypertext, x-ref's
and other e-doc bells and whistles).
We put a HTML front end on it similar to the methods that have been
described recently for people's portfolios. It was mainly a backup to the
online version in case the network went down.
When it is a huge manual, you may want to break it down into it's chapters
and create a full HTML front end (TOC by chapter number, by subject, by
responsibilities, etc.). Whether a book this size is distributed through
the network or whether it is loaded by disc, it is still a massive drain on
system resources.
The problem with breaking down a book that large using the chosen tool
(Frame) is that we found we either needed an aftermarket search tool or we
needed to maintain the "Big Book" to have a usable index.
Has anyone had experience with putting a large technical manual on CD?
Thanks
