I'm in New York City, and haven't had a contract in nine months.
Companies are still cutting back and laying off staff, and many projects
are on hold.
A few of my friends have found some short term work, and at extremely
reduced rates.
Many of my contacts who were at client locations are no longer there.
Neither are many former contacts at recruiting firms.
I had one call about a consulting contract two weeks ago. The project was
put on hold indefinitely.
I had another call for a permanent position. I agreed to be interviewed and
was willing to seriously take it.
The client still hasn't made up their mind about a candidate -- there are
so many to choose from and the project is changing scope and focus.
Another call was for work out of town. Recruiter seemed shocked that I
wouldn't jump at a chance for a long daily commute and a low
rate. Personal circumstances limit my location choice to New York City --
preferably Manhattan.
One tentative offer was for $25 per hour. They got someone at a lower rate.
Any other New Yorkers out there?
You can contact me off list.
