I find it interesting that no one has mentioned Word's worst "gotcha" when
it comes to different looks on different machines. Anyone who applies on
line, and sends a resume formatted in Word, runs the risk of having their
resume "blow up" on the other end---even if every single paragraph/line has
styles. For a very good explanation of why this happens, check out the MVP

There are a couple of things a person can do to help alleviate the problem,
but the only way of having the person receiving the document getting exactly
what you wanted them to see----is to send a PDF. And even that has it's
limitations (embed fonts for instance!)

Remember, not all "solutions" work for everyone in all situations.
