Today I appear to be following a contrarian path, but ...

If we are managing adults (and some days I do wonder), a manager's job is to
give the employee the tools to do their work faster, better, smarter, and,
and maybe even show them how to use a new technology.

After that, you can judge employees by whether or not their productivity
improves as much as everyone else's. We can't put ourselves in the position
of managing people's hands. For one thing, how many of us actually always
rest our fingers on the right keys?
