--- Bruce Goett asks: --------
Where the heck are all the Canadian jobs? I did a search for tech writing
jobs this morning on Dice.com. The results were 1851 jobs in the U.S. and .
. . . . . . 5 in Canada.
--------------------

1) As has already been pointed out, not all jobs are listed on job boards.
My current position wasn't listed on a job board, but my previous position
was.

2) There are many different job boards. For example, on the STC Toronto job
board (at http://www.stctoronto.org) there are currently 8 positions listed.

But I do admit that things are really slow for technical writers - I think
that 2 years ago there were probably 20 postings at any time on the STC
Toronto job board. Some of it may be time of year (not much hiring started
during the holiday season) and some is probably a result of the economy and
failure of dot.coms and other high-tech companies. For example, a few years
ago Nortel was hiring like crazy in Ontario, and recently they've been
laying off thousands (probably including tech writers).
