Yes <shudder>.

In my case, my old company contact called me directly because the new in-house writer kept telling him that his pet projects would have to wait because other jobs had priority. I didn't know that, and didn't have the sense to ask either the new writer or her boss. I just kept happily doing the work and mailing my invoices. A kind soul clued me in---*after* I lost the contract. Messy, messy, messy.

My suggestion:
Set up a joint meeting with both the new marketing writer and the guy who's bugging you. Do this immediately. Notify both of them *and their manager(s)* that you are suspending work on the extra projects until there is agreement on responsibilities and priorities.

I hope your situation is resolved more amicably than mine was.
