I personally would have refused. This practice should
have been described before the interview, just as when
you schedule an interview, you're told at least the
types of people you will be interviewing with, the
length of the interview, and what to have prepared.
Not telling you that you would be in direct
competition with others in the room at the very same
time is wrong. Not only that, it's not fair to you or
the others there, as that 30 minute interview is
spread across three people, giving you each 10 minutes
of time per interviewer - if the interviewer sticks to
a clock and is fair with questioning and interview
control.

No, I've never heard of such a practice, don't condone
it, and wouldn't be part of it. Upon finding out, I
would have remained poised and dignified stating that
I had not realized there would be other candidates
being interviewed at the same time, that I understood
I would have x amount of time with each interviewer,
and would have their undivided attention during this
process (as they would mine). I would have added that
having other candidates in the room was very
unprofessional in my opinion, as interviews should be
kept confidential. If they did not agree, I would have
left copies of my resume and card with the HR people
with a kind remark to please contact me when they are
ready to conduct a proper interview.
