I didn't answer "other," but almost did. My reason: I have been laid off once, but it was questionable as to whether it was as a technical writer or not (which is specifically part of the question). I was more of a proofreader at the time---technical writing-related yes, but actual technical writing? Dunno.

So far scored 2 votes... Seeing as there was a "not
been laid off [implied "yet"]" option, and an "8 or
more times" option, what could "other" possibly mean
ot score 2 votes...???
