Knowing the difference is the trick.

When a new user pulls his Gateway out of the box, he wants to plug the
purple plug into the purple socket, not read a treatise on keyboard
technology.
Conversely, when a Net Admin is installing Black Ice, I'm sure he wants to
know
both the what and the how.

Providing both simple instructions and more detailed background is a
good solution to this dilemma, when possible.
