I was in college 1991-95, and I had to wait in line or get to the lab at 2am
to use a computer as well (never had my own until after I graduated). I
never experienced the punch card spill, but I *have* killed network
connectivity to a lab before... due to a misplaced, heavy book bag. ;)

Oh wow. I feel dated. I remember going to the computer lab
midnight to 2am so I wouldn't have to wait in line for the
keypunch machine. And when they got one with a BACKSPACE I was
thrilled! (the university probably saw an immediate drop in card
consumption.) And there was the day I tripped and my card deck
splayed across the wet ground....

Don't miss that part at all.
