I have done this process before, but with Script VS files. I downloaded the
files from the mainframe to the pc. I loaded them into word, and wrote a
custom macro to id headings from their markups, and then just find/replace
to strip all the other layout gunk.

I vaguely remember there is a way to get bookmaster to output using a raw
EBCDIC file which can then be converted to ASCII.
