I haven't followed this thread closely, but in my experience as a writing
teacher, students who read a lot (no matter what it is) are better
writers. In effect, they have been *taught* by expert writers, and have
therefore learned many techniques for conveying fact, emotion,
credibility. When I get such writers in my classes, we can work mostly
on credibility--how do you present yourself as credible to a particular
audience.
