It seems that the second paragraph "washes out" the first paragraph in terms
of the financial...30% less in pounds and pence and 30% less in rent and
council tax. Am I totally wrong or does that seem like a zero sum
gain/loss?
IMHO, the second paragraph trumps the first because I believe aesthetics
often offer advantages that "dollars and pence" simply can not.
Many times an overwhelmingly gorgeous sunset has put myriad (internal)
grumblings and gripes in proper perspective, reminding me that above all,
my ability to observe and appreciate the sunset rejuvenates my ability to
effectively earn the dollars and pence.
Take care and be good to yourself!

Subject: RE: Biggest salary cut you've taken?
I moved from Reading, SE England, to Edinburgh, SE Scotland, turning *down*
a job offer with a hefty payrise to take a noticeable pay cut (not quite the
largest I ever took: that would be when I went from contracting to salary).
Now I have slightly less money in real terms (about 10%) and a lot less
money in pounds and pence (30%).
But I live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, where there is
a pleasant and interesting route on foot to anywhere in the city centre: I'm
paying about 30% less in rent and council tax, and I have all the advantages
of living in a capital city plus a commute to a job with fun people and
Dilberts over the Forth Rail Bridge, which celebrates its eleventy-first
birthday this year. Now if I had that and lots of money *too*, I'm sure I
could think of new things to grumble about...
