TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
At the risk of blatant and self-congratulatory promotion, allow me to point
you to my simple Web site at www.darrenbarefoot.com/writer.htm which
contains, amongst other stuff, my writing samples and resumes. The aspect
which seems to impress people about it is that I've written a little
description that contextualizes each sample, and sometimes I include
"before" and "after" versions. The Web portfolio also enables you to
demonstrate your acumen in a variety of formats (help systems, PDFs, etc).
It came in particularly useful when I was applying for jobs in Ireland and
the UK. I had a lot of phone interviews and the online portfolio enabled us
to review my samples together. Just my two cents. DB.
