The problem with your position is that you are equating grammatical
proficiency with technical proficiency.

I don't consider them great tech writers, but I have worked with people who
were rather week on the grammar side but knew the technical information. On
the other hand, I have also worked with someone who was a grad school tech
comm dropout, but never bothered to learn the technical end of the project
(this was at the same job).

Guess which one caused us more problems with re-writes.
