FW: Another perplexing MS Word 2000 numbered list problem

Pam earns my undying gratitude---this solution does work! A lot of folks
replied moreso to share my grief than to offer real solutions.
Note: I am using nested numbered list styles, kind of in an outline form but
not using the outline headers in Word. I was worried that David's
auto-corrected fields would not allow me to do this, but if I use his
approach on the top level lists, the nested list numbered using conventional
methods seems to work fine (so far!).
Way to go Pam and David!

Andy,
Unfortunately, Word's autonumbering is notoriously buggy, and has been for
many releases. The good news: David Knopf offers a solution that works
flawlessly. See "Coping with Word's Autonumbering 'Feature'" at http://www.knopf.com/resources.html. Hope this helps.

Bonus level of gratitude to anyone still working at this hour on a summer
Friday afternoon who can throw a quick lifeline my way.
