If you're using Windows, and a TrueType font is OK, see if you have Lucida
Console installed as standard. Use that instead of Courier, but drop the
text size a point or two.
It's a monospaced font which doesn't set any narrower than Courier, but has
a larger x-height and so should work better at smaller sizes, as a previous
message suggested.
If you do drop the point size, try keeping the line spacing the same as the
original, e.g. if you go from 10pt text with 12pt line spacing, go to 9 pt
text on 12 pt line spacing. That may help legibility at a smaller size.
Depends on the font.
