Two words for you: You can't. Period. That's all. I'll say it again: You
absolutely cannot control where line breaks occur when a member of the
general public prints an HTML file. You have not been given control, you've
been given the ability to suggest, that's all. Any control you think you
have is purely illusory. That's both the agony and the ecstasy of HTML/CSS.

>1. Javascript (not supported on some browsers)?

Not supported on some browsers, turned off by user intention on others, and
mainly irrelevant to printing, anyway.

>2. Page length HTML table rows?

What's a page length? You know what a page length is when you print from
your browser to your printer. But you have no idea what a page length is
when I print from my browser to my printer.

>3. Multiple HTML files - one for every page?

See above.

>4. New options in latest HTML?

Unsupported in many browsers, buggy support in others. And even if done
perfectly, it still doesn't have the final say.

>4. Stay with PDF and live with the redundancy?

Even that isn't foolproof.

There's something you're overlooking: You have no idea what fonts I have
installed. Hence, you don't know what it's going to be like. PDF files can
have fonts embedded in them, and when they don't they can improvise with
the existing fonts to make something *usually* viewable, mainly because
acrobat comes from Adobe, a company which is also a font foundry.

A way to limit the redundancy might be to generate the PDFs from your
system, thereby setting in stone the layout that you're seeing in *your*
browser, if you can live with that. Probably best is coming up with a way
to produce the HTML and PDFs from the same source doc. No experience with
that, so can't give much guidance there.

Have fun,
