Scott Turner reports: <<I must disagree with Geoff's conclusions.>>

Imagine! The sheer effrontery of the lad! <g> fwiw, some of my favorite
messages on techwr-l are the ones that disagree with me; I learn every bit
as much from "Geoff, you ignorant slut"* as I do from "well said!"

* Anyone else old enough to remember Dan Ackroyd and Jane Curtin doing this
routine on Saturday Night Live? <g>

<<I have learned that when a manager demands personnel, they are empire
building. It is not so much as about teams as it is about control.>>

That's certainly a possibility; I've seen it happen too. But I tend to
shamelessly advocate taking the high road, at least at first, at the risk of
occasionally sounding naive. I think your points provide an important
counterbalancing opinion, and freely concede that this situation might
eventually degenerate into a power struggle, "red in tooth and claw".
