I am pretty experienced with Word and have been attempting to make the
transition to FrameMaker -- only without any training, or anyone around me
who knows the tool. Just me and a book. I haven't worked on a project yet in
FrameMaker as I have just been getting my toes wet, but I have completed a
number of projects in Word.
My current project is my first freelance gig (which is ok, it's a very
informal arrangement). I'm writing a user guide for a very simple-to-use
piece of software. The person I am consulting with has given me free reign
on every aspect of this guide except for the layout: he wants it to be a
bi-fold manual (with portrait page-orientation). I think I can whip up
something in Word, but would rather tackle this project in FrameMaker as
it's my first opportunity to complete something in Frame. Problem is, the
project is a rush job. I have less than two weeks to complete it (I just got
the finished software Friday).
Sadly, I've never created anything in bi-fold format. I'm thinking of using
columns in Word since I am familiar with Word and I'm pressed for time. But
it seems like Frame really is the tool to be using. It seems there is a real
derth of bi-fold information or templates. I haven't really found much
useful information when searching either the archives or google for
"bi-fold" or even any templates for this layout. Perhaps there is another
term?
Any advice on creating bi-fold documents? What is the best tool considering
my relative lack of time? Any tips for creating such a document in either
Word or Frame?
Thanks so much.
