Any automated "PDF-er" is flaky (I prefer that technical term over "picky"
*g*). To get the best PDF results, you should always print to a postscript
file using the appropriate postscript driver for your working platform (see
www.adobe.com for a list). Then, Distill the PS file to PDF, but make sure
you check your Distiller Job Options first... the wrong options can lead to
crappy PDFs. The reason most graphics come out all whacked is due to the
Distiller automatically seeing a bitmapped image (BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG...) and
applying JPG compression, which is a lossy compression. To avoid this, edit
your job options to use Zip compression instead. Sure, your images might not
be compressed as much as they would be with JPG applied, but they'll look
nicer. And when dealing with GIFs, you don't save much file space by
compression anyway.
